Christopher Cohee, Chief Instructor began his martial arts career in high school at the age of 14 learning Modern Arnis in Flint, Michigan. College life took him from Flint to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where he studied Kuk Sool Won in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. After college he settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan and began training in the Okinawan style of Uechi-Ryu at Joyner’s Professional Karate. In 2003 he traveled to Okinawa, Japan and earned his Nidan, second-degree black belt. He currently holds the rank of Godan, fifth -degree black belt, as well as, Shihan, Master Instructor. Chris continues to expand his training under Sifu Mark Stewart in the art of Jeet Kune Do, the style founded by martial artist Bruce Lee. For the last 5 years he has trained in the Israeli art of Krav Maga with an emphasis on threat neutralization, tactical efficiency, and weapon disarms. Sensei Chris brings over 30 years of martial arts experience to East West Karate as both an instructor and a student. His respectful demeanor provides an open learning environment for all students regardless of age, rank, or experience.
